Drenthe is a province of the Netherlands. Located in the northeastern part of the country it is often overlooked – at least by Germans on our race to the Western coast. I was lucky enough to get myself a Grunn (Groninger) who moved to Drenthe as a kid: We love Drenthe.
Why we love Drenthe
Since my first visit in 2011, I’m enchanted as Drenthe has all the features I love the most in Central European landscapes in a perfect mix: dunes, heather, open plain, forest, lakes, streams, sand, marshland, grazing animals, and more which can be explored via lots of biking and hiking paths. Quaint villages and long barrows add to the flavour. With all the water around, I don’t even miss the ocean in Drenthe – it is just so cute, peaceful, fairy-tale-like.
See for yourselves!
